Poynton Round Table

The National Association of Round Tables of Great Britain and Ireland
The Liverpool vs Milan of Area 46 !

It was a warm evening in May, with Bramhall the venue for an area 46 5 a side to establish who was worthy to be scouted for a place in helping Liverpool retain the champions league cup......and what a talented team that was put forward, all walking sticks and Zimmer frames were carefully positioned close the pitch in case of urgent support required......

Two teams made it into the final the famously simple :

White team (aka Liverpool) made up of :

Norman Barwood
Craig Clarkson
Dave Bennetint!
Nige Forrest
Iain Banks
Jonathan Cowie

The colours (ala Milan) :

Chris Harsnape
Barry Watson
Robert Barwood
Damien McElvenny
Christien Simpson
Tommy Cocoran

The 50 minutes on the pitch proved to be a real test of wills - or rather real test of stamina as those repeated Friday night takeaways suddenly came home to roost and the dawning realisation that we were not Dave Becham's long lost brother.

Following a 3 all draw the penalty kick off loomed closer - the tension increased and it was down to Barwood and McElvenny in goals to save it for their side. The winning touch was made by Iain (yes I can also break the net) Banks with an explosive right foot to secure the win to the combined Worlsey and Poynton team.

All that remained was the traditional approach to hospitality and a trip to the pub. An excellent night and one that summed up what table is about and a great effort from across the new area 46 in taking part - the only question, when is the rematch.....

The winners are pictured above.
